Over Qualified...?

What makes people look for a different job or think of leaving their current job is a mystery for me up until now.  I've been with 3 different companies excluding my On-the-Job Trainee but yet I am still lost of what is the cause of this.  All I know, I've done this with different reasons with the various different occasions that I did so.

I have this experience in one of my interview, I was told that I am over-qualified for the position that I applied for.  That was the first time.  I had mix emotion about it - would I take it as complement or take it as an insult?  Regardless, it was the first time that I got rejected and feel okay about it.  In the back of my head, I was thinking - "So what?"

Qualification is a funny thing.  When I was starting out in my career I was considered to be the last choice since I am not qualified for the position, five years after and couple of promotions I am now "over qualified!"  I always thought I had to work harder than the rest contemporaries (at least those I share my graduation year) so that I can finally match-up with the rest of those whom I share my high school batch year.

I spent 8 years in 2 universities to finish my degree.  My high school best friends were supervisors and managers already while I was reviewing for my board exam.  I thought I had to make-up, no matter what.

Because of this thinking, when I was starting in my career, I became a workaholic.  Sometime I work for 24 hours straight.  I got sick a couple of times.  Got promoted a couple of times as well.  Nobody truly understands the motivation I had.  I went up the corporate ladder so fast that looking back now, I think I over did it. But then again -  I do not regret it.

So if being motivated makes you over qualified, then, so be it.  A company that can't see the relationship of diamonds to coal doesn't deserve to have any jewel.  Maybe I'm just being bitter though.

Random FB Add... Dangerous Times or Harmonious Times?

This past week, I've added random people in FB... admittedly, they're all girls and good looking (I guess the reason is self explanatory).  I've done this out of all the news concerning ladies/girls victimized by guys they met in the internet.  I was wondering what's the psychological framework that this ladies/girls have when they've done what they did.

Call it a social experiment of some sort.

Let's just say, 50% of those I've added accepted the invite (in case they're reading this, very much thank you!).  Out of respect, I've sent private messages to all of those who accepted only 1 out of arround 30 person sent a reply.  I tried to make a conversation but to no avail.

I guess, most of these ladies/girls know the danger of what they've done (or I'm just not good looking enough for them to be interested, hehehe).  Still, I can say that it was a successful experiment.

Say for example, this blog, the ones your reading now had 716 page viewes 'til date.  Most of them coming from USA.  Funny, I think I don't have that much of friends residing in the USA.  As I have said, I guess I talk some sense sometimes.

We'll... I guess, the lesson here is that evil people are everywhere in this day and age and its our moral duty to stay vigilant of them all the time and in every endeavor that we do.  The internet and social media connects people from all walks of life (I'm even friends with some actresses, imagine!) and it levels the social caste putting everyone into one class and that is the individual and self.

For a short period of time, I was able to connect to close to 40 people (real or not, there's got to be someone making the unreal one, right?)... 40 lives that I can influence (potentially).  Thus, spiderman's quotable line is appropraite: with great power comes great responsibilities (hope I got that right).

The Devil in Red (During Christmas)

Some if not all of you would recognize Sta. Claus as the icon of Christmas.  He is often be the ones displayed on establishments rather than the Holy Family or even the baby Jesus.  In a way, Sta. Claus is the symbolism of Christmas commercialization - but more than that, for me, he has stolen Christ in Christmas.

He is the devil in red.  You may all disagree to what I just said, all I ask is answer this: "What is the reason why Christmas is celebrated?"  The root word in Christmas is Christ, so why all the Sta. Claus?

The origin of gift giving is the three wise men who gave symbolic gifts to Christ when He was born.  Is Sta. Claus there?  All the angels sang praises to God as they appeared in the shepherds in the field and not to Sta. Claus.

Let us not forget the truth about Christmas and that is Christ.  We celebrate the gift of salvation coming from Christ and not from the devil in red.

Teach your children about Christ rather than Sta. Claus.

Merry CHRISTmas to all of you!

Maria Christina Falls - Iligan City

I am from the City of Water Falls - Iligan City, Lanao Del Norte, Mindanoa, Philippines.  There other water falls in my city, the one in the back ground is Maria Christina water falls which gives energy to Agus 6 and Agus 7 hydroelectric power plants.

This picture was taken when me and my significant other visited my hometown this all Saints' and Souls' Days - November 2012.

If you have time, do come and visit my hometown and explore its other wonders.

Question.... Answer?

In life there will always be questions and there is no guarantee that there will be answers.  As people, it would be logical for us to try to live our lives without regrets and "what-ifs" as much as we can.  But, after a few years of idealistic effort, we come to accept the fact that there will always be regrets and "what-ifs" and that the only thing we can try to do is to make sure that they're not big enough or important enough to haunt us in our lifetime.

We make mistakes, we create bad decisions, we hurt and get hurt but the most important thing is that we learn from them.  Even if we repeat doing all the bad things that we do and it took a while before we eventually learn - we still learned... eventually.

I guess life is made of lessons learned from bad experiences and that happy times are mere consolation prices to our race for wisdom.  Notice how old people look like they don't look happy rather they look contented.  And when they look at you, they seemed to be saying: "I made all those horrible things in my entire life, but it brought me here and now to where I am, and that's all that matters."

I'm way too young to ever be contended, but I'm getting there.  I may have been able to answer some of the questions I had when i was younger,  but certainly not all.  I still have time and that's all that matters for now.  In fact, the most precious thing (if you can call it that) in this world is time.  No matter how rich you are - no matter how much gold, diamonds, and gems you own, you can never buy more time - when it passed you by, its gone.

I think what I'm trying to say here is that, time and answers go hand in hand together.  I may not have been able to know the secrets of the universe or claim to know the meaning of life - but one thing I'm sure of: in our journey, all we need is time and answers will reveal themselves eventually!

The Currency of Time:

FINAL VERSION:

Death's in August

Today, I went for a check-up for the back pain I had for a month now.  I had an X-Ray and CT Scan.

It took a while to have my test approved from the insurance company of our company so I had my test completed past 12:30 in the afternoon.  When I went back to get my record in the out patient department that happens to share with the emergency room of the said hospital, I noticed all the nurses are in high gear, seems that someone is having an emergency.

The nurse sent me off to lunch since they're quite busy with the emergency, I obliged since I was hungry.  I took my time eating lunch and even decided to go pass by the bank on my way back.  When I reached the hospital, I noticed more people are inside the ER and none of the staff are in the OPD, so I decided to have a sit and observe things.

I come to observed the parties with the patients inside the ER.  The first family was sent to the ICU after a couple of minutes, then a tricycle was rushing with horns all out with an unconscious man (pale like dead).  At this time, I am now well aware of the presence of the angel of death and said to myself, someone will die.  Minutes after, when the wife of the unconscious man came out crying, I know that the man was dead.  The wife was weeping and saying this phrase: "kawawa naman ang anak ko, bata pa naman ang asawa ko..." which means, "pity to my child, my husband is still young..."

After hearing that lady crying, I can still feel the angel of death, then I noticed the other guy inside (he was in there before I arrived), he looks dead as well.  Moments later, the relatives started to cry - I know he was dead.

So I decided to take my records and pay my bill (the doctor was not accredited with my insurance) and went home.  I drove my bike relatively slower than my slowest driving.

When I arrived in my apartment, I decided to watch TV, then the breaking news came: "Sec. Robredo's body is recovered" and he was dead as well.  Sad since I like the guy - the only one amongst all the popular cabinet member of PNoy.

Sad.  August 2012.

Conserve Water?

Its funny how we are often reminded to "conserve water", you see this phrase in almost all environment friendly establishment (or those who are trying to be), but have we really asked ourselves is it really applicable for the Philippines?

We have so much water.

This thought came across  my mind after all the raining today.  We are an archipelago, a group of island, we are surrounded with water and constantly visited by storms and typhoons.   Since mass cannot be created or destroyed, thus, we practically have an infinite supply of water (water cycle anyone?).

I guess the only problem is failure to manage or engineer our way to complete utilization of that potential (the infinite supply of water that is).  Is it really a failure in our part or just mere limitation of the current technology available to us humans?

Let's keep in mind that our country isn't really technologically up to date.  Heck, we even have a 62 Billion Dollar debt while having 75 Billion Dollar reserve and on top of that we will be lending a billion Dollar to Europe - what an irony!!! Or maybe just idiotic.

I think we have very competent economist and intellectually at par to any other nationality in this world but yet we are still economically challenge.

I guess, the only issue and problem really is "thinking".  Have we really thought about everything before we endeavor?

We are globally competent as a professional but relatively under rated just simply because we allow others to do so.  Imagine how our professional teachers ended up being some house help in some other country or just how our nurses ended up working without any salary in the guise of volunteerism.  Volunteer my ass!!!  By the way, I'm an engineer and not a nurse - its just I sympathize with them.

Which brings us back to the phrase "conserve water".  Why?  Just like we are not allowing incineration of our solid waste and just have dump sites all over the country for the sake of "clean air" which shouldn't be a matter in the first place.  All you need is just one strong typhoon and the air pollution in Metro Manila is gone else where.  We have approximately 20 typhoons annually, so why not allow incineration?  The answer, we didn't use our head.  We just copied the laws of other countries without thinking whether it is truly applicable to us.

We have so many laws but very poor enforcement!

I guess in summary its just a matter of applicability.  Conserve water?

ANNOUNCEMENT (2012 and Beyond)

I'm not too sure if there's someone reading my blog, I never really  cared before when I was creating it or will I ever care.  Its just my means of personal expression and will never ever be meant to please anybody.

However, just in case some people do follow, browse, or read through it out of shear luck or intentional search... I want you all to know, that I'm currently conceptualizing what my blog's identity will be.

You'll probably read my first post on this journey / phase of my life on August this year.  Much have happened since the last post I had.  I'm now also 30 y/o, a bit older than when I started it this blog so I got to have a lot more things to say compared to before.

Although I'm a chemical engineer and worked on technical role, I don't think I'd like to use that as the identity of my blog.  It would be boring.  Most likely you'll find stories of my stupid mistakes  the past few years and also a self-help language learning of Bisaya (Cebuano) crush course - how about that? BISAYA BAI?

Anyways, worst case would be me having my dairy here, but that wouldn't be a bad idea either - it's been a long time since I wrote my latest poem.  Anyways, I'm just thinking out loud here... Hopefully, this time I'll have followers - and this time, I will care.

Looking forward in interacting with you cyber world residents!!!

Valley Of Chrome Twilight lyrics

The center of my universe six thousand miles apart
The journey of the calloused yet ever breathing heart
Day by day I burn in the twilight of her gaze
No entity of fairness could ever be replaced could ever
Be replaced

Our stars collide but the stars dont shine
I imagine her in my arms she is frozen our vows broken

Ill undo this curse the lines that I rehearse
When silence wraps around
Hands slowly reach out my loneliness and doubt
I plead for your reply
Will you come back to me in the twilight

The moon covers the sun as she slowly walks away
Results in an eclipse in a comatose of the heart
Those days with her seemed endless and her eyes seemed
So sincere I never thought she would suddenly disappear

Her lips were pale yet soft Im dying in the cold
Your cliched lines and withered flowers our story will be told

Without her love my daylight ends
Of whispers and light kisses I shake shiver cry a river Share

Standby for a while. Kapagud kasi pag akyat. Miss Malou here shows her dermatologically cleaned face - dahil sa medicard kaya naka afford.

Maybe It's Just Me

I had to go to DFA for my passport application appearance last Saturday (December 5, 2009) via the 2go online passport application pick-up and deliver service. It was amazing, it took me only less than 30 minutes to finish it. I was pleasantly surprised with what happened since it gave me so much time to burn. My bus fare from Bataan to Manila is quite a sum so I decided to visit my fraternity brothers in UP Diliman. For everyones information, I am a proud member of UP EMC2 Fraternity, Mabuhay Ang Kapatiran!!!

I was surprised to how the face of UP Diliman changed, fences and gates that were never there before arose so proudly in the campus vicinity. It gave a sense of censorship that UP was never know for in the past (well, at least during my time). They say it's because of the high crime rate in the campus; this brings us to the second change that i noticed.

The faces of the students that were roaming around in the campus on my visit are not the typical looks that I interacted and mingled with before. They look rich. Maybe it was because of the increase in the fees that shove the youth that used to go to UP before. Those whose families comes from low income brackets that thrive to finish decent education despite their life's situation. Where have all this youth went then? Maybe in PUP or any other cheap state university near their respective area, we really can't tell for sure.

The sad reality of these facts is that the "best of the best" and the "cream of the crap" is not always coming from families with means. During my time, they are the ones that comes from families that could only afford to put their children to university because of scholarships.

I'm not really sure if I should be considered to be a person of authority on this matter considering the fact that I wasn't able to finished my degree in UP and that I used to pay full tuition during my time there. However, I can't deny my memories of the students that I've met during my time in UP Diliman. I can't convince myself that these are just changing times of UP Diliman. It is with my 5 years experience in UP from 1999 to 2004 that led me to think that the cost of University of the Philippines education is starting to be commercialized.

The root cause of any crime is the high difference between income brackets and social classes. The time when people inside UP campuses deviates greatly from those that surrounds it in terms of money and not of intellect is the start of proliferation of criminality inside UP Diliman's premises. Truly, what happens to UP is a reflection to what's happening in our country.

Hey, maybe its just me.

Kulit ni baby... Babaero to pag-laki!!! hehehe...

Just a Little Thought

I have come to realize that people are too much of a hypocrite and go by saying that "its just part of the job and nothing personal." They tend to forget the fact that "everything is personal when you are a person." All the pain that other people inflict to us, be it intensional or unintentional, inflicts the same amount of pain.

Emotional baggages carried through time are like cancer cells slowly killing the person. The most painful wound are not the kind of wound that bleeds with blood. More often than not, wound done to the character of the person or individual never heals through time.

Such wounds are heartaches cause by break-ups, frustration caused by failed expectation, emotional death caused by slow but continual suffocation of ones well being.

Medically speaking, it is said that the most common cause of heart problem and hypertension is stress. And all know that stress is caused by outside forces and factors like pressure from work or home.

To be continued...

Don't Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Valley Of Chrome - The Art Of Letting Go

Is this goodbye and farewell? it's a romantic tragedy
All is fair in love and war and I'm the lonely casualty

Your forked tongue has lost it's sharpness
It does'nt have the luster it used to before
Sure it takes a lot of soul to forgive
So let me show you your way out of that door

You are a beautiful walking mistake and from you I have learned
How could someone so true be so fake? Now you're none of my concern

Let go- you are nothing I deserve
- your acting's all but superb
- a romance for the deaf and blind
- with such poor taste and design

These calloused hands are shaking and I'm breathing heavily
Soon all of this will be over shadows reaching out to me

Sweet nothings in my ears now they disgust
Those letters you've sent now gather dust
Sure it takes a lot of soul to forgive
I'm dead with you and now I want to live

You are a beautiful walking mistake and from you I have learned
How could someone so true be so fake? Now you're none of my concern

Let go- you are nothing I deserve
- your acting's all but superb
- a romance for the deaf and blind
- with such poor taste and design

And now this is the time and I cannot pretend
The day I live again is when our story ends

Dramatic lies and severed ties in bloodstained cradles lay
Despite the loss that bridge I'll cross come calm or storm what may
We drank the wine the undivine process of suicide
Let it be known apart we've grown I gave you everything I own
And as you make your final exit I let our story slip away
I bury you with the memories of a forgotten yesterday

After Ondoy

This is to pay tribute to those who suffered from the recent storm that hit the country. It amazing how nature stops the arrogance of mankind by showing its destructive might.

Its as if the great flood of Noah's time reoccur to punish those who are evil. However, are small babies guilty of sin to suffer such pain? I am but a man and I can never understand what God's plan.

Had I not transfered to Bataan and work still in Pasig, I would have been included in the increasing list of victims of the flood brought upon by typhoon Ondoy. I ma truly blessed by God and for that I am thankful.

Let us pray for those who suffered and suffering from this calamity that hit our country. We should always remember that God do not allow problems in our life if we cannot surpass and unable to overcome them.

GOD is great, we just have to trust HIM in the most trying times of our lives.
